Customs House in Brisbane

Cities are never a highlight whilst backpacking – they’re too big, touristy and expensive – but I actually really liked Brisbane. It’s has a great river flowing all through it with lots of cool bridges throughout. In addition, it’s the start of the tropical part of Queensland, so you see lots of sites like this one, with old, colonial buildings on the river right next to big, jungly trees. Aussies definitely have a good sense of humor about themselves, as the former colonial-era City Revenue (i.e. tax) building here is now a casino.
