Whilst in Zambia in 2001, I bungy jumped 111 meters (364 feet) from a bridge over Victoria Falls. That seemed high then, but I remember the bungy operators being a little bummed because a bungy site had just opened up outside of Queenstown, New Zealand that was higher – 134 meters (439 feet). Thus, since I was in Queenstown, I had to do it, and it was intoxicatingly terrifying. I had no problem jumping off the platform – look at that perfect jump form in this picture! – but it’s a 8.5 second free fall and I got really scared about 6 seconds in. Alas, my quest is not over: There’s now a higher bungy site in Thailand…
