I decided to dust off the backpacker persona to make my way to Florida to attend my cousin Jay’s wedding in Ft. Lauderdale, which meant going by Greyhound. I knew that the Greyhound station locations wouldn’t be the most convenient, and the one in Asheville didn’t disappoint, as it was away from downtown, up a hill and through a tunnel, as the picture above shows.

However, there was a Cracker Barrel next door to the station and, since I was early for my bus, I bought a take-out coffee there. It was a chilly morning, but I sat outside on one of the rocking chairs they have displayed for sale. I thought I was well put-together and not looking too backerpackeresque. I guess I was wrong, though: A waitress came outside and said “a women inside has offered to buy you breakfast if you come inside out of the cold.” I declined, but remain impressed by the humbling nature of Southern hospitality.
