We peregrinos, pilgrims, normally stay in Albergues while on the Camino. They’re hostels specifically built and/or run for us, and are much cheaper than normal places. The cheapest are the ones run by the village/town/city, normally €8-12 for a bed in a dorm. Yep, that’s cheap, but the real cost is the quality of life you see in this pic. What you can’t see is the ferocious snoring the blasts in stereo every night, and the incessant attention to & conversation about feet. The most important thing I’m carrying in my bag, truly, are ear plugs & a sleeping mask, and that I can’t smell is a super power.

Please note I/we don’t have to stay in these places, but we continually choose to, happily, as it’s part of the amazing experience that is Camino.
