At first glance this seems extraordinarily wasteful & stupid. But the article slightly makes the case that this ice trade is not as wasteful as you think. Luxury ice is still stupid, of course, but at least the shipping containers are now returning from Greenland with cargo.
I’m partially posting this article because I saw Greenland for the first time last week, on my Oslo-Copenhagen-DC flight. It looked snowy & cold (kinda like Oslo):
