We like to think that cockroaches will outlast humans, but the truth is they’re only here because of us. They need us as much as a past startup I worked for needed me — I was the official office cockroach stomper, and would be summoned by Slack to come & kill. So, if humans go away, cockroaches go away, and some poor fella out there (other places must also have a designated assassin) likely loses his chances for office heroism.
In a weird coincidence, both The Washington Post & The New York Times had almost the exact same article on this topic today. Journalists sometimes like to say that there’s too much news to cover & keep up. I guess today was not one of those days.
