Did You Do it Today is not a “real” mobile app.
At least this is how people respond when I tell them that you won’t find DYDit in the app stores. Unfortunately, when people hear “app”, they mean the ones that you download from the iPhone or Android app stores, So, for them, if it’s not there, it’s not an app.
Indeed, this is partially why my teen cousin, after hearing me explain DYDit, and briefly checking it out, sent me my first customer support email:
“This web-app stinks ๐ฉ๐ฝ”
Apps you download onto your phone from the app stores are more appropriately called “native” or “mobile” apps. The truth is that “app” just means any interactive web experience. So, if you use a browser and login to a site, you’re using an app. Or, more specifically, a “web app”.
DYDit is a web app, so you don’t have to download it, and can easily use it on any browser. It’s been built to be used primarily on phones/smaller screens, and you won’t have to do lots of scrolling or zooming in & out to use it.
So, why isn’t DYDit a native app? Welp, this post is already long enough (and, frankly, a little boring), but I have to establish this basic differentiation before I can get into the specific (juicy! exhilarating!) reasons why I built it as a web app vs. a native app. Stay tuned for that explanation in a future post.
In the meantime, you can check out my ๐ฉ๐ฝ web app @ https://didyoudoittoday.com
