DYDit Data Review: Q2 2024

“Did You Do it Today?” has been live for three more months, so it’s time for another look at some top data nuggets (see the Q1 ’24 recap here):

#1 → Customers “DYDit” 65% of the time

This was 62% in the last quarterly review, so we’re moving in the right direction. That said, because the customer mix is constantly changing, I can’t directly credit the app for the improvement. Although I have made changes in the app (eg. achievement badges) to emphasize that checking in every day & improving the “Yes” percentage over time is the key, I don’t think tracking this specific stat leads to any actionable takeaways.

Action Item → Continue to emphasize the importance of checking in every day, but just treat the “Yes” % as a “hmmm, that’s interesting” stat for my own personal consumption

#2 → Customer churn is around 18%

Any business, especially a subscription service, is going to lose customers, so I fully expected this to happen. However, the percentage seems to be a little high compared to industry averages (which are actually kinda hard to define & find). That said, I’m actually a little relieved that my customers aren’t afraid to unsubscribe, as most are friends & family.

I really don’t want this app’s long-term success to rely on my beloved “let’s support Tim’s little project no matter what!” customers. I genuinely only want people to subscribe if they need help building a habit, and only want to stay subscribed if they’re using it.

Action Item → Implement some automation to try to get more feedback about why people are leaving the app (and, staying)

#3 → Growth has stalled

This is the most concerning stat of all. I knew my first customers would be friends & family, and pretty much ensured this by only marketing with passive social media posts. I created a referral program to compel my customers to start doing outreach for me, but it’s clear that I now need to put my big boy marketing pants on.

Action Items → Improve the app SEO & begin direct outreach marketing program

The overall good news is that I still love being independent & working on DYDit. My bank account isn’t loving it, though, so I’m looking forward to getting gritty in Q3.
