I’ve traveled, a lot, and mostly done it independently, just me & my backpack. But to travel alone is to only be alone when you want to — you’re always around similar-minded travelers, whether it’s in the hostels, the pubs, or on small group tours.

If I’m being honest, it’s those small group tours that have always been the best part of every journey I’ve been on, and every country I’ve been to. In my recent travels, this has meant lots of food & drink walking tours, and I especially appreciated them when I was traveling in Japan.
The country had just opened up after COVID, and there weren’t yet many solo travelers like me there — it was mostly large tour groups, couples, and packs of young, mustachioed, mulleted Aussie blokes.
So the food & drink tours I went on were great because I got to eat & drink well and learn about lots of different Japanese cuisine, but also got to meet & hang with other traveling folk, and great local guides.

So it was to my surprise when I got back to DC and found that there really wasn’t much like that here. Sure, there’s tons of history walking tours here, and some food tasting tours, and an occasional bar tour, but nothing that combined all of them like I loved in Japan. Hmmm.
Another thing that got me thinking: Most travelers I’ve met overseas are surprised that I love living in DC. They’ve all heard of it, of course, but just think of it as a place for museums, monuments, and politics, and not a place where real people love living, building happy lives & communities.

I mean, I did begin my attempt to leave the corporate life in 2023 and take a shot at making a living independently by building tiny businesses. So…

Drink-Eat-Walk is being born as a way for me to create an amazing experience for travelers visiting DC, showcasing the food, drink, neighborhoods, histories, communities, people & places that we locals all love so much. And guiding is the natural next step in my travel journey, showing & helping others find the thrill that rocked & re-framed my world when I first started really traveling back in 2000.
Stay tuned!
