Ok, I think I’ve figured out the stops & route for the first Drink•Eat•Walk tour I’m going to offer: Drink•Eat•Walk → Dupont Circle & Adams Morgan
Here’s a summary of the tour:
- Welcome drink & snack @ 5pm in a small park next to the Dupont Circle Metro stop
- Three food + drink stops
- Eight stops to talk about history & stuff
- Final stop is for dessert or drink (half mile from Metro stops)
- Overall emphasis will be “Communities & Locals in DC”
- This is NOT a gourmet foodie or specialty cocktail tour
- Emphasis is on the food & drink that we locals consume, in the neighborhood places we regularly go to
- No monuments or museums will be discussed!
- Duration = 4 hours
- Walking distance = 2 miles
- Target price = $119/person (includes everything above)
Here are the things I’ll be discussing on the tour (at the stops or while walking):
- Dupont Circle neighborhood
- Embassies
- DC height restrictions
- LBGTQ+ in DC
- DC street plan
- Latinos & Salvadorans in DC
- Adams Morgan neighborhood
- Ethiopians in DC
- DC housing
- U St & African Americans in DC
- Recent immigration
- DC locals
I’ve pretty much known for a few months that this would be the first tour itinerary. I just first wanted to do some research, read some history books, and walk the route a bunch to prove out that it made sense IRL.
So, next up: Convincing some friends to do some full practice runs with me on some Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (the days I’m targeting to offer this tour) over the next few weeks. Looking forward to finally getting out there and learning how it feels!
