I took some more local DC walking tours this weekend, these ones focused on history & architecture. They were great, and the guides were super knowledgeable. Once again, though, they weren’t full of much joy, nor was there much interaction amongst the group (I think those two things are related).
The only pic I took this time was for the look-alike contest that our tour group walked through:

Look, I didn’t really expect them to be gobs of fun, as that’s not their purpose, so I didn’t walk away disappointed. It just re-iterated to me that the tours I want to run are very different than the current ones out there. I think this is a good thing, but it could also mean that there’s no market for what I want to offer 🤷🏻♂️
I also realized what a serious history town DC is. I mean, I’ve been doing a lot of reading & research to get the baseline amount of DC knowledge stuffed into me, and I don’t want my tours to go too deep into each historical thing I want to talk about. It just became clear to me this weekend that I’m competing with some real serious history pros in this town (probably why so many folks are so good at bar trivia here), so I need to step up my research game a tad.
Thus, it’s time to hit the big one that’s been lurking there in my library queue:

Watch out local trivia masters 🙋🏻♂️
