I’m going to focus on one thing this year: Build a tour business.

For the past couple of years, I’ve kicked off the new year by committing to a bunch of things. I then do a yearend assessment of how I did towards the commitments. And it’s in doing my 2024 assessment (which is still forthcoming) that I’ve realized that I’m just continually setting myself up to feel disappointed — I’m committing to too many things.
So, this year it’s just going to be this one commitment: Build a tour business. I’ve already written a bunch about this business on this blog, on DrinkEatWalk.com, and on its Instagram page. Subscribe to any of them to follow my journey.
That said, just because I’m only committing to this one thing doesn’t mean I’m not also going to work on improving other aspects of my life. I built a habit-tracking app after all.
So there are some other things I’m going to work on, with the intent that they are all in service of helping with my one commitment to build a tour business. If I don’t do any of them, but still get the business running, that’s totally fine. But I think they’ll help:
(1) Post something online every day
I wrote about this here. This will help me build a tour business with marketing & sales. The personal benefit is that it forces me to write every day — I’ve learned that I don’t really know what I think until I write it or say it out loud.
(2) Read books for 30 min each day
I already read in bed every day before I go to sleep, and again when I wake up in the middle of the night (which happens 80% of the time). This really just to help get me to sleep, though, and I forget half the things I read because I’m in the process of falling asleep. Reading more during the day/evening will help me build a tour business because I have to do lots of research for it, eg. history books, and will also enable me to remember what I’ve read better. The personal benefit is that’ll keep me off of X/Threads/Bluesky.
(3) Increase the intensity of my workouts
I’m already pretty good at working out each weekday, but I noticed this year that I tend to half-ass it too much: run on the treadmill instead of outside; take long rests between lifting sets; not signing up for any races. So, I’m going to push my fitness much harder this year. This pumps up my ability to build a tour business because intensity begets intensity. The personal benefit is pretty obvious.
LFG!
