I finally splurged and replaced the cardboard boxes & baskets I was using for clothes storage with some new shelving units. And I’m not ashamed to say that they’re from Ikea. Look, I know most folks think I’m too old to still be buying Ikea, but I don’t care. I still love their stuff:
- I’ve pretty much memorized their classic product line because of all the times I’ve bought stuff from there, then gotten rid of it to travel, and then re-purchased upon my return
- I don’t think I’m mentally capable of transitioning my taste nor budget away from the initial Ikea imprinting I received when I moved on from the free-furniture-from-friends world back in the day*
- It’s so easy to get Ikea stuff now. No more needing to go to the store (which I also love). You can now just order online & have it delivered, one of the primary reason the internet was invented
- I love putting it together. It’s the only time I ever feel like I have construction skills, and it’s deeply satisfying have “built” something with my hands
- If you have multiples of the same item, the challenge of improving my assembly time with each one is a blast
- I have no problem giving it away the next time I want/need to blow up my life

*I never moved on — I currently still use free furniture from friends
