Commitment #2:
Earn → I need to generate income this year. Hopefully it will be independently, and ideally via Did You Do it Today? & Snack Pantry, but I’ll continue to be open to any interesting opportunity that comes my way.
Grade = D–
It was actually kinda dumb to have this as a commitment, as it’s essentially a duplicate of Commitment #1 → Sell. So, I’m going to duplicate the grade I gave there. The reason I separated it out, though, was to account for trying to make something out of SnackPantry.com. So, I’ll talk about that in this post.
I bought the domain many years (decades?) ago because my friend & I loved the sound of it, and it was fun to say. I also thought it had potential as a real URL — a big conglomerate like Nabisco would pay me million$ for it, right‽
Then a few years back I read about Peter Askew, and started thinking about it like he does, ie. obtain a great domain and then figure out how to make a business out of it. So, my first attempt at backing into a business for SnackPantry.com was as a link recommendation blog, something I committed to in 2023 & then evaluated here. That didn’t go that well, but I continued with it in 2024, even make it part of Commitment #3 → Write (which I’ll evaluate next week).
This is getting confusing, another indication that I tried to do too much in 2024 (and, 2023). Bringing us back to this post, and evaluating Commitment #2 → Earn in terms of earning anything from SnackPantry.com, I give it a Grade = F. I made no money from it, and never tried (eg. creating a newsletter out of that blog & selling subscriptions). It did help me keep trying to write something each day, though, so my next evaluation post will pick up the long saga of this URL there.
