#workabout Favorites

Reflecting back on my trip, I think a lot about what my favorites were. Lotta ways to apply that “favorite” label, but the way I’ve been thinking it the most is as it relates to my daily schedule out there. I moved fast (too fast!) on this journey, so every day/every other day essentially became the same. Thus, by the end I knew what parts of the schedule & day I liked the most.

My favorite time of each day was finishing up a blog post and clicking the โ€œPublishโ€ button. I called this journey a #workabout, but the truth is I really didnโ€™t do much work on https://didyoudoittoday.com nor https://drinkeatwalk.com while on it. I just didnโ€™t have the focused time to devote to it, as most of my time I was either walking around seeing a new town, riding a bus to get to a new town, or writing these posts. So, pushing that button each day made it feel like I was working; like I was being productive; like I was accomplishing something.

My second favorite was when Iโ€™d finally be interacting with someone at a motel, or restaurant, or store, or library, or game, or bus, or bar. One of the reasons I wanted to have this break was that I was bored & uninspired at home, and every interaction on the road was a chance to listen to others, to learn, to be inspired (or, not lol). I just needed some new outside energy.

My third favorite part of each day was getting on that bus, knowing that a new adventure was ahead of me. Part of the reason I like to travel is the change, and changing perspectives, it offers. I wanted to get out of my apartment, to get out of my bubble, to get outside more, to see how folks were living their lives in parts of the US Iโ€™d never been before.

Finally, I really liked that DC was home, and that I’d be going back to it. I didn’t really miss much specific about it (other than friends). Rather, I enjoyed being out on the road for an extended period of time, but then coming back to a home base. So wrap all these things together and it might just point, if you squint hard enough, at a potential path of what’s next for me.

Using one’s potential nickname in third person means full acceptance, so Tim approves!

you have a grammatical error on drink, eat walk….

    “DC’s best bar-hopping, food-eating, like-a-local neighborhood walking tour”

DC’s best bar-hopping, eating like-a-local, neighborhood walking tour

Say it out loud, pausing at each comma and you’ll hear the difference. Food is redundant — what else were you intending on eating? This is much easier off the tongue.

Good thing the Board hasn’t seen this yet.
