French Camino

Our cruise stopped in the tiny town of Le Verdon-sur-Mer, the port access for the Bordeaux region. I didn’t feel like doing any cruise-organized tours, so decided to just walk off the ship & see what happened. I’m gonna do a full post on the great day I had, but first a quick one on a special moment I had on it.

I walked the Camino de Santiago last year. The route I walked, the most popular, is called Camino Francés, the French Way. Despite it’s name, you’re only in France for the first half of the first day before you cross the Pyrenees into Spain. There are tons of other Camino de Santiago routes, though, many of them starting far deeper into France, where it’s called the Chemin de Saint-Jacques.

Although walking the Camino is still one of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had, and I probably think about some aspect of it every single day, no part of me ever expected to see a Camino/Chemin sign in France on this trip, and certainly not in this tiny port/holiday town.

But there it was. Just toteming alone in a random field. I was stunned. I walked to it; I touched it; I talked to it. And I think I finally realized, much like Spain, I know I will be back to it. Some day.
